We offer a world-class
education of the mind, along with a nurturing of the
heart that supports confidence, independence and personal
creativity. By combining the Montessori method with
the best aspects of a small private school, we offer
something unique that is not offered anywhere else in
our community. The following aspects constitute what
we believe make our school different. We call it The Bergamo Advantage:
Low teacher-student ratio
Most public and private schools have ratios of 1 to
20, and even higher. (To see a report on class sizes
in California, click here). The teacher to student ratio
at Bergamo averages 1 to 12. What does this mean to your
child? It means that he will receive the personal attention
that he deserves - yet, we will give him the opportunity
to take risks and learn on his own.
Multi-age classrooms
An important aspect of the Montessori method, multi-age
classrooms have distinct benefits for your child. At
Bergamo, we group children in three-year age spans- we
have classrooms for 6 to 9, 9 to 12 and 12 to 15 year
old children. Because each child spends three years in
the same classroom, he develops a deep bond with his
teacher. Likewise, the teacher will get to know your
child well, and will learn the correct strategies to
motivate and challenge her, according to her unique needs.
Similarly, the multi-age class structure affords every
child the chance to be a leader. Unlike traditional education,
where leadership is based on outgoing personality, at
Bergamo, the leaders of the classroom are the older children.
Therefore, every child, whether outgoing or shy, is given
the opportunity to lead- an important life lesson that
will serve your child for the rest of her life.
Individualized learning
At Bergamo, we don’t group children by age; we
group them by ability. Our unique multi-age classroom
structure allows us to tailor an academic plan that is
unique to your child. In each subject area, children
are given lessons individually or in small groups, which
ensures that each child works to his or best potential.
Community
Our school community is, perhaps, the greatest Bergamo
advantage. We take care and time in selecting the right
families for our school. As such, we are an educated,
diverse group of families who share similar values for
our children. Our community ensures that your child will
learn and grow in a positive, supportive environment. |
