Foreign Language Immersion Program to Expand
Bergamo Montessori School is pleased to announce that we will be expanding our language immersion programs, for children from the ages of 3 to 6, in September.
"The format has been such a huge success that we would like to offer it to more children in our school community," said Pamela Lynn, Head of School. "Children have a once in a lifetime ability to absorb language from their environment, like a sponge. I the last few years that we have operated the program, we have see some amazing things - it gives our students at tremendous advantage for the future."
The language immersion classroom operates as a normal Montessori classroom with a trained Montessori teacher guiding the children throughout the day. The difference, however, is with the classroom assistant. "We hire assistant who are fluent in a foreign language and they only interact with the children in that language throughout the day," Lynn continued. "It really is the best of both worlds. The Montessori environment allows children to learn at their own pace while, at the same time, they are exposed to a foreign language through daily, consistent interaction with the assistant."
In addition to the one Spanish immersion classroom in operation, two other classrooms will convert to the Spanish format in September. A Mandarin immersion classroom is scheduled to open in January, 2009, which will be the first of its kind in the region. New Primary Classroom for 3-6 Year Old Children to open in January 2008
The Bergamo Montessori School is pleased to announce that it will open a new Primary classroom for 3-6 year old children at the Pocket Road Campus in January 2008. The new classroom will be one of two new Primary classrooms scheduled to open in 2008.
"The demand for the program has been overwhelming," said Pamela Lynn, M.Ed., Head of School. "As we are one of the only fully affiliated Montessori schools in the Sacramento area, we have families coming to us from all over the region. We simply didn't have enough spaces available to meet the demand. This is a great opportunity for families to avoid the waiting list," Lynn continued. "Whereas families usually enroll a year in advance, in this case they can start in just a few months."
The new classroom will lead by Lilli Ortega, an AMI trained Montessori Primary Directress. Lilli has 10 years of experience guiding children from the age of 3-6. Families interested in learning more information may contact Sylvia Flood, Director of Admissions, at (91 6) 427-1900 extension 1 or via e-mail at Sylvia@BergamoSchools.com.

Alyssa holds a Master's Degree in English, as well as a California Public School Teaching Credential. She has 14 years of teaching experience, most recently with the Elk Grove Unified School District.
Alyssa will finish her Montessori training at the Montessori Training Center of Minnesota in August, and will be certified by the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) to guide children from ages 6 to 12. She will open a new classroom of 6 to 9 year old children upon her return, in September.
Bergamo Celebrates 100 Years of Montessori Education
On a cold and wet January morning, the elementary students from Bergamo Montessori School ventured to the California State Capitol to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Montessori education.
Pamela Lynn, Head of School, addressed the assembled crowd of parents, teachers and politicians. The students followed the speech with a rendition of "If I Had a Hammer", which was followed by a release of white doves.
